SAGE South Africa National Competition 2022

SAGE South Africa Annual Teen Entrepreneur of the Year 2022

In 2022, SAGE South Africa had over 6000 applicants (statistical breakdown indicated below), with teams competing against each other provincially, in the build-up to the national event. Among the 6000, the Top 100 teenagers were selected to receive a University of the Free State Business School Short Course. This short course is important as it awards learners with a tertiary education course that offers a wide array of skills, adaptable to their businesses immediately.

Nationals 2022 and more

This year, the national competition was split into 4-unique streams

  1. Innovation & ICT league

  2. Socially Responsible Business

  3. Social Enterprise Business

  4. Developmental League

Each stream was dedicated to ensuring effective, sound and expert-adjudicated marking and question and answering to provide for relatable industry-inclined rubrics.

The National Winners for 2022 were a team of 4-teenagers from Soshanguve that innovated a solar-powered train cart, capable of storing solar energy and powering the locomotive with ease.

The team from Soshanguve won amazing prizes, not only for themselves but for their growing business.

  • These prizes include a R 25 000.00 cheque,

  • National Excellence Certificates from SAGE South Africa,

  • A trip overseas to the 5-day SAGE Teen Entrepreneurship World Cup in August 2023 and a showcase exhibition of the solar powered train, worth $2000 conference attendance fee each delegate, excluding flights.

STUDENTS FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF GLOBAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP AT A GLANCE

Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship (SAGE) is an educational program that was founded and developed by California State University, USA and is endorsed and accredited by the University of the Free State,  Economic and Management Sciences Faculty.

We focus on the following:

  • Curriculum: The learners are given University training which awards them the NQF Level 5 accredited Certificate with UFS.

  • Mentorship: The learners are mentored by trained program alumnus who are available throughout the year to assist them with the program business requirements as well as other business related queries.

  • Competition: The learners are divided into groups of a minimum of two peers and a maximum of four, who then compete amongst each other at different levels (regional, provincial and national level) to be crowed South African Teen Entrepreneur of the Year, to then represent South Africa at the annual Global Competition (SAGE WORLD CUP).

Dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks. Students for the Advancement of Global Entrepreneurship emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support the community, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words. Established in 2000, we’re an organization driven by progressive ideas, bold actions, and a strong foundation of support. Contact us to learn more and get involved.
